The protesters, who also carried the body of one of the victims, said that Ghulam Yasin, a constable, married Bashiran Bibi sometime ago and later divorced her to contract the second marriage. They said that Muhammad Yasin, brother of Bashiran Bibi, pursued the maintenance suit, which was decided in her favour. They added that Ghulam Yasin nurtured a grudge against Yasin and a couple of days ago, he with his accomplices reached his house and opened fire at the family. They said Yasin died on the spot while his brother Mushtaq and two relatives were injured. Mushtaq was referred to Lahore General Hospital where he died on Saturday. They alleged that police were not arresting the accused as they were influential. They demanded Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and DPO Syed Khurram Ali order immediate arrest of the accused.

In another incident, students blocked a road in protest against the death of their fellow in a road accident in Khudian.

Ali Hamza, a class 2 student, with his cousins was coming to school on a motorcycle when a van collided with it. As a result, Ali Hamza died on the spot while Usman, Ahsan and Shahzad were injured and taken to hospital. After the incident, students of Khudian High School blocked the road, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the traffic police. Later, they dispersed on the assurance of the police that the van driver would be arrested soon.

CASH TAKEN AWAY: Dacoits took away Rs 125,000 in two strikes.

In the first incident, four dacoits entered the shop of Imran Khalil and held him hostage at gunpoint. They collected Rs 125,000 and mobile phones and fled. The Allahabad police have registered a case. In the second incident, eight dacoits deprived several passers-by, including Mukhtar Ahmad, of Rs 7,200 and mobile phones near the Talwandi police post.
